About Kate: I was given the title Kathleen Marie Young, the rumors vary depending on which family member is asked of the naming origin- one scenario is that I have carried the Irish tradition and taken the namesake after a Great Aunt Katherine. And an etymologist would describe the suffix "een" to mean "little," like Maureen or Catalin(a), so Kathleen is "little Katherine." My mother swears I was promised Kathleen Scarlet (O'Hara), turns out I became just as dramatic without the southern rosy cheeked middle name.
Formal Education: fine arts transfer and sorority girl drop out from Colorado State University. Continued to transfer between art schools down the west coast, starting in San Francisco and finally ending the carousel in San Diego with a bachelor's in Fashion Marketing and Management from the Art Institute of California.
Current Projects
Paper. Current art project includes dissolving the boundaries between home and travel, between distance and the definition of 'home.' to find oneself traveling independently and getting lost mentally in a physical area. The pieces are forms of three dimensional crossroads where we learn to navigate life's goals and expectations. The combination of geography and land maps with sky charts: I feel attached to the concept of self perspective, that someone might look so far inward and experience such a personal analysis that it changes the way we see the world- our physical gaze morphs.
